It works really well, though. I basted my Splendid Sampler with just pins, because it seemed too difficult to get everything stuck in the right place with that huge quilt. I did get a pucker in the backing on the very first block I quilted but I am not redoing it! To me, it would "feel" easier than making nine parts of nine pieces each. I would make the setting triangles a little too big and trim them down, to be confident the finished block is big enough. You have chosen well. The center blocks show up nicely. When it comes to less stress, I much prefer paper piecing over regular piecing. I enjoy the more accurate results. Sorry, I have not tried spray basting. I hand baste with perle cotton. I actually happen to be a super big fan of paper piecing and just finished a quilt top where I paper pieced all the flying geese... tja, don't love those.
