Rainbow Sprouts is a multicolored, beginner-friendly, scrapbuster quilt pattern that was first published in Make Modern Magazine's Issue #68.
Rainbow Sprouts
Rainbow Sprouts is now available as a standalone pattern in my Etsy Shop.
Made with Island Batik's Basics, Rainbow Sprouts is the answer to the question - Why do leaves have to be (mostly) green?
Yellow, Orange & Red
Each leaf has a dark and a light fabric and the number of those combinations is only limited by your imagination.
Teal and Green too
Finishing at 61" by 84", Rainbow Sprouts uses 16 fabrics (8 light and 8 dark) plus Solid Black (Stems) and Egg White (Background).
It is an excellent way to showcase your favorite fabrics. I am showing off Island Batik Basics including Chambray & Harbor (Blues), Flamingo & Candy (Pinks), Banana & Taxi (Yellows), Chameleon & Parakeet (Teals), Mystic & Caribbean (Aquas), Ballerina & Rosewood (Reddish Purples), Marmalade & Flame (Oranges), and Pistachio & Apple (Greens).
Love these Colors
To make Rainbow Sprouts, you need 4.5 yards of background fabric and the rest can easily come from your stash. Make it scrappy with many fabrics or control the chaos with a monochromatic color scheme.
Thank you, Paul
I had fun making this quilt and these hues are yummy enough to eat. The pattern is super simple but that is not all.
Glaze (Island Batik Neutral) Backing
Let me show you the Bonus Project. The off-cuts make a smaller quilt that is cute as a button.

Rainbow Seeds, 44" by 55"

If you don't want to participate in the giveaway, leave me a comment anyway but mention the no giveaway thing. I will announce the winners next week.
I will be sharing with all my favorite linky parties. See full list on the sidebar.
Rainbow Sprouts is another beauty, Preeti! You chose the perfect Island Batik fabrics to make get the rainbow effect. This would look so pretty on a little girl's bed! My mom passed in 2009 and I still miss her so much. For about 15 years before that I planted her flower garden and filled it with a rainbow of annuals. She absolutely loved it and I switched it up every year. This spring I am preparing to sell that home and it is bittersweet.
ReplyDeleteAll of your quilts are so pretty and you used every bit of the fabrics! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteOh my - your 2 rainbow quilts are stunning!! Wow! The most enjoyable book I've read this year so far - Mrs. Endicott's Splendid Adventure. It was a "feel good" story.
ReplyDeleteBoth quilts are bold and bright, my favorite kind. My daughter asked what I wanted for Mother's Day and I told her, she calls regularly, she sends me funny memes all the time and enjoys hanging out with me. To me, that's the best Mother's Day ever and I don't have to wait for one day a year to get it.
ReplyDeleteI think I remember making this with you for a quilt along years ago? It was a great pattern and so fun to make. I'll pass on the giveaway, but will share the best book I've read this year: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. A mystery involving books, what could be better?!
ReplyDeleteI had fun piecing this project with you on a SAL. I finished quilting it years later. . . I haven't made the bonus quilt; but, plan to since the blocks are sewn! This is a great pattern!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea to have the bonus quilt instructions too. Lovely rainbow quilts ♥. I have a (different) Sprouty quilt in the works (UFO status) so will pass on the giveaway thank you. One of the best Mothers' Day gifts I received was a framed photo of all the grandkids together.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful pattern and I'm happy you are able to list it in your shop as a standalone fabric. I love the bonus quilt as well.
ReplyDeleteI love your pattern and am so happy it will be a stand alone pattern. My favourite Mother’s Day gift I’d spending time together - a walk in the woods and lunch is perfect.
