Say Hello to the Little One!

I am listening to Eragon by Christopher Paolini.
The dragon is Saphira, the rider is Eragon. Saphira's name for Eragon - Little One.

Finished Flimsy
I have a finish to share. Finishing at just 37.5" square, it is one of the smaller baby quilts I have made.  Hence the name - The Little One.

3" squares of Kaffe Fassett fabric

Made with 3" Kaffe Fassett Squares, some left over from Clay's Quilt and others cut up from 6" Design Strips.

Irish Chain Layout

There is no story in the flimsy. At least, not yet.  The backing on the other hand...

I started this quilt sometime in October last year, after Esmeralda was completed. The flimsy was finished a few months ago but there was no rush to complete the quilt.

The Little One

When Jake mentioned that she was destashing, I agreed to buy some of her fabric. I chose a few solids, some dark prints with vines, and a few polka dot fabrics.  Jake stuffed the box with fabric tighter than a pregnant woman's stretched belly.  When I opened the box, this gorgeous, bright, beautiful fabric just jumped out at me.

Celestial Bodies

The colors are so rich and bright that they shimmer on a black/navy background.
As I noticed the deep red and emerald green, it became clear that these bright colors matched perfectly with the Kaffe Fassett squares in the top. Seems like a miracle for a backing that I did not choose.

Bright Sunny Binding

Now I had to finish it. How could I not? The richness of the fabric beckoned to me. I chose a bright sunny fabric for the binding.

Finished!!!
A small quilt in an infinite universe.

On the banks of Lake Ontario, Canada

The quilt and the lake - shine and shimmer

A backing that depicts the infinite universe for a small baby quilt may seem like a paradox.
But a baby is just that - a universe of possibilities in a little bundle. Say hello to the little one!!!

Niagara by the Lake, Ontario, Canada

Thank you, Sandra (she took the picture)

Who gets that, you may ask.
Well, just as the top and backing found each other, I am sure the quilt will find its home.
The universe is listening.

Labelled

I think it was Albert Einstein who said "There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle"

The Little One

It is obvious that I belong to the second category.  Did anything take you by surprise lately?
I'd love to hear from you. I will be linking with all my favorite linky parties; see full list on the sidebar.

  8. Love Eragon, the Little One and the infinite universe.
A recent surprise? A FQ bundle of Alison Glass Sunprints showed up at my doorstep yesterday. OK, not really a surprise. I ordered and payed for it. But every time I get fabric, I feel it's a miracle that I'm a quilter and I get to enjoy such scrumptious fabric :-)
Love your labels. They look soft and silky. Where do you get them?

  9. Hi Preeti! Lovely! I just love the Irish Chain pattern and it is my go-to when I need to make a baby quilt. I have been expanding but it's still the first pattern I think of. Happy Friday! ~smile~ Roseanne

  10. I was trimming blocks for a diagonal block quilt today at my daughter's in between holding the baby. Guess what fabrics are in them? The same Kaffes in strips and white. I had to laugh.

  13. Congrats! on your newly completed quilt. I'm sure it will find its baby soon enough! The label on your quilt took me by surprise, as it appears much (much!) clearer than the ones that I had printed not too long ago.

  15. Such a sweet quilt, and I know it will find its perfect owner. The photos by the lake are gorgeous! Recent surprise? Finding out today that the fabric I ordered may be a bit delayed. Looks like there’s time for a squirrel!

  21. That is one awesome quilt. What a wonderful meld of colors and the yellow binding is pitch perfect. Wait, there's more. Nifty quilting! This is definitely a two sided quilt. By the way I loved Eragon when I read it years ago. I’m pretty sure Christopher Paoliniwas about 18 or so when it was published. I’m pretty sure there are several additional books in the series too. Enjoy your week.

  23. I very much see joy and miracles everywhere, too! Yesterday I kissed the feet of my eldest son, now 12 years old, and told him of how I could not stop kissing his little feet when he was a tiny baby. Back then I was surprised and delighted by how those baby feet, that had seen shoe nor sock (he was born in hot 2006 June) still had a typical "foot scent" (I am a scent person, and I love the natural scents of the different areas of the bodies of the people I love, many people seem to think this is weird, and prefer artificial "deodorant" smells, but I think they are weird, and missing out!) And yesterday evening I was surprised and delighted by how big and strong those feet are now, and by how much he delights still in me kissing them and telling him stories of his baby times. I love kissing my children's feet, and have been telling them forever that children need their feet kissed to grow, and they kind of believe it! It is also very important that both feet receive an equal ammount of kisses, to prevent the child from growing crooked :-).

  24. Well, since I had the privilege of seeing this little one in person, and being privy to other secrets yet to be revealed, I can say it really is a little gem! Lovely to think of Jake’s fabrics bringing joy to various people right?
