Like Sex but Better

Picture this - a warm, sunny day on a beach. Blue skies with just a tiny cloud or two, and the aquamarine waters are neither warm nor cold. And there I am in a hammock made up of your sweet comments, gently cradling me. That is how I feel; thank you for your hugs. I love you and I feel loved!!!

Greens on the Color Wheel

According to Angela, March is Green.  She did not specify light or dark, bright or dingy. So here they are.
All the greens in five blocks total.

Me: I believe that patchwork/quilting is like sex in so many ways.
Paul: Gosh, I hope so. You certainly spend a lot of time doing it.
Me: Just like sex, one does not have to be an expert at it to enjoy it.  It may seem awkward and uncomfortable at first but it does get better with experience. If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right and being passionate makes all the difference :-D

Paul: Don't you need a partner for sex?
Me: Well, a good partner can certainly enhance the sexual experience. But better doing it alone than having a bad sex partner.
Paul: But quilting is done all alone, without a partner? Right?
Me: On the contrary, we have many partners, like Guilds, Bees and now online sessions to sew together.

Paul: Well, are there any differences between quilting and sex?
Me: Cheating is highly encouraged :-D We talk freely about it. There is no shame or taboo.
Paul: You spend a lot of money on quilting. Sex is free.
Me: I don't spend money on sex but it isn't free. I pay in stew and sandwiches. However, I am not sure which industry is bigger - sewing/quilting or porn?

Paul: I am sure that a "finish" takes days or even weeks.
Me: Sometimes. But there are quickie projects too. :-p
Paul: Well, is a quilty finish just as mind-blowing and exhilarating?
Me: Initially yes. But once a finished quilt is photographed and shared on social media and then the feedback and the love and joy... It is so much more!!!

Paul: Anything else?
Me: Yes, I can sew and quilt for hours.
Paul: Make sure you stay hydrated.
Me: And that is another similarity!!! But Thank you, my love!

As I am making these Sister's Choice blocks for the RSC, there are the leftover cuts from the star point  corners. But I am keeping the chaos strictly under control like this.

Cute and Wonky

There should be enough to make a small baby quilt.  Unexpected side effects of quilting :-D

In other news, I am no longer an Accuquilt virgin.  I cut a few binding strips and used my Block on Board Snails Trail die for the very first time and made a block. This is a new relationship and we are taking it slow.

Snails Trail Block

Island Batik's March Challenge is Scrapbuster and that will be my next post.  I have two brand new quilt finishes coming up and I can hardly wait to show you.  Ok, you twisted my arm - here are the sneak peeks.

Aah Texture!

Ooh Colors!

I will be sharing with all my favorite linky parties, (see full list on the sidebar).
Won't you share your aahs and oohs with me?

  1. Ok, this made me giggle, just a bit. Love the green blocks, and the Snail's Trail looks good.

  2. Love your blocks and the thought it took to fussy cut the center of the 9 patch. And loved the "conversation" with Paul. You're quite the story teller :-)

  3. I love that you’re making the hour glass blocks right away. It’s a bonus quilt in process. My accuquilt and I are getting along better. I am currently putting borders on a churn dash baby quilt from their block on board die.

  4. Love your greens - like you I am using greens of all shades and if green is called again I will mix it up and use more!

  5. Beautiful green blocks, love the watermellon one, great work with all the fuzzy cut. So good you can make a cute & colorful baby quilt with those bonus triangles. I am using all shades of greens too.

  6. Love, love, LOVE that you've chosen to use a mix of GREEN in each of your Sister's Choice blocks, Preeti, and it's even better that you are keeping pace with the Bonus HSTs!!

  7. My favorite part of your posts are always your conversations with Paul (ok, maybe even with the quilting eye candy) and this one is the best!!!! Paying in stew and sandwiches! Sounds right!

  8. You made me laugh out loud and scare the dog!

  9. I love it! I once heard that giving someone a quilt is like having sex: if you truly love the person, it's free, and if you don't, there's not enough money in the world.

  10. I'm so glad you sound so happy.

  11. Preeti, you are hilarious! Looking forward to seeing the quilts that those sneak peaks come from!

  12. Ah, you are witty and wonderful as always! Who else would compare sex and quilting? But there sure are a lot of similarities! Your Sisters Choice blocks are so nice, and I like the addition of those lightly shaded corner patches. Looking forward to seeing your fun new scrappy projects! xo

  13. Are you familiar with Project Quilting, a fun 6 week challenge run by Persimmon Dreams blog? Week 4's challenge was the snail's trail block. Fabulous entries, including seahorses, witches, Santa's, and cats. They are all on one post for week 4. Have fun with your go cutter. I love mine.

  17. Oh, Preeti, your conversations are priceless, LOL!!!

  18. Love those Star blocks. Having interesting centres to the 9 patches really brings a lot of interest to the blocks. Like how you have kept with one shade of green for each block. Very effective. Always a bonus to have enough blocks for a baby quilt.

  19. Hahaha! Similar, yet different ... Hahaha! Love your blocks and I think your baby quilt will be adorable with its wonky sweetness!

PS Thank you again for the lovely prize of 5" x WOF strips! They're beautiful and arrived safe & sound!

  20. HAHAHAHa! Do you put words into Paul's mouth or does he just flow out with these words. He is priceless! Please fawn over him a bit extra this week!

  21. I so enjoy your conversations with Paul, they give me a good laugh. I think he deserves extra stew this week. Your green blocks are wonderful and great bonus to be getting a baby quilt from spare bits. Well done with the cutter.

  22. I enjoyed your conversation with Paul. You always give me a chuckle and a smile! Loving those green blocks!

  23. Ah, your post arrived in my inbox just after I went to bed last night, so it provided a welcome chuckle this morning and put a smile on my face. You have such a wonderful assortment of scraps and as always, your conversations with Paul are amusing and delightful. Looking forward to your new reveals.

  24. Well, THAT was a revealing conversation. :) I had trouble with the greens this month -- I have LOTS of greens but they didn't want to play together. (I forced them, though.)

  25. Good morning! I'm blushing as I read this. You are always a surprise. And my husband is wondering why I am suddenly paying attention to him. :)

  26. Oh, you are so right! I have a good friend who said going to the Container Store was like sex and this reminded me of the many ensuing discussions we had. My husband doesn't agree with Netti and I think he would respond like Paul about quilting and sex. Of course, staying hydrating is keep in all!

  27. Those extra blocks are very cute! They look like candy :)

  28. This post is just too funny!!!!! Maybe this should be the topic of our next Girls Retreat- how is quilting like sex???? Ha ha ha! LOVE the green blocks-I was itching for a new addition to my RSC. And I think I read somewhere if you have darker greens, use those now. Light greens would come later. You nailed it! And the leftovers are just too cute! I will smile about this post all week!!!!!!

  29. When I began what you were saying to each other I had to read it aloud to my hubby! LOL! When I got the info on what to expect from my hip surgery there is a question and answer section. "When can I have sex again?" I was aghast! WHEN HAD I BECOME GENERIC?

  30. How do you like the Accuquilt cutter? I like how you fussy cut your blocks. They look so good.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Love 💕 your fussy cut green RSC Sister’s Choice blocks. You & your hubby have some interesting (& amusing!) conversations, Preeti — thanks for sharing a snippet with us. I don’t have room for equipment like an Accuquilt cutter, but a Snail’s Trail quilt is definitely on my bucket list. I look forward to seeing more of your batik quilts of which you’ve given us a snapshot ! ~Diana K.

  32. Lovely Sister’s Choice blocks and a treat to see all the fabrics up close. A few are or were in my stash, too. But you remind me my greens are running out.
You and Paul have amusing conversations!

  33. Love your sisters choice blocks - the greens are just so springy. And the sneak peeks... oh la la!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi Preeti! I always save your posts to enjoy when I have plenty of time - who knew it would be almost a week to read the sex vs. quilting argument?! I love the banter that you and Paul have, and the fabulous relationship that you share together. Your Snails Trail block is a nice remembrance of losing your virginity with AccuQuilt. We can all agree that slow is good for new relationships. {{Hugs}} Take care and stay safe. ~smile~ Roseanne

  35. Has anyone told you today how wonderful you are?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh my goodness. This is like The Dr. Ruth Show meets Quilting Arts TV! Differences between quilting and sex: watching other people do it (quilting) is not considered creepy. Also, the ideal mood/task lighting levels are a bit different. But really, as I try to think of differences, I keep coming up with more similarities. Quilting is better with electric toys? If you're not careful, you might end up in the emergency room with an embarrassing story?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I see it was you who initiated the 'sex is like quilting' convo with Paul. Why am I not surprised? Your blocks are all so pretty. I like to examine them to see if I can find a fabric that may have come from my scrap stash, and I did find one in a green block! Alas! I haven't done any quilting since I last saw you, so no new scraps. :(

  38. Hahahaha - this was an excellent post. Some of your best work Preeti!
"I don't spend money on sex but it isn't free. I pay in stew and sandwiches. " Hilarious!!!

So glad I finally got around to reading some of the posts I missed last month. I wouldn't have wanted to miss this one!
