Purple, Positivity and Pain

The Purple blocks for June RSC 2021 are complete. YIPPEE!!! Here they are:

Reddish Purple

Bluish Purple

True-ish Purple

Since I had purple on  my mind, I saw purple everywhere and lots of it. Here are a few glimpses.

Hydrangeas

Allium something - Ornamental Onion

Purple and Hairy Leaves!!!

I saw a Purple Wall!!!

In Berlin, MD

Noticed this sign on vacation in Berlin, MD

A purple butterfly!!!

Pansies :-)

O Beautiful - Don't know thy name

One purple shell on the pathway to The Inn Berlin

Do you like Dark?

Or Light

Here are the secondary blocks, using the triangle leftovers from the snowballed squares in the Sisters Choice Blocks.

Secondary Blocks

19 done and 11 to go.

I am sure they will make an adorable baby quilt :-) Linking with Angela's Linky Party.

I chose red, white and blue for my Mercyful Quilt.

The Reds

The Blues (for the border)

24 Border Blocks

In process - Red Blocks with snowballs

Although I have completed the flimsy, I will share it later in the QAL in the July 18 Linky Party.

OK, fine. Here is a peek :-)

And lastly the pain. The pain of rejection.

Curated Quilts had announced the Polygon Mini Challenge using the colors Navy, Rust, Olive Green, Almond, Ash and Cream. Square not to exceed 16" and any technique.

I dived in - utterly and completely. I made not one but four minis. Each distinctly different, using a different technique.  Well, see for yourself.

1. Wedge Issues - So many polygons!!!

Improv Pieced, 15" Square

2. Happy Hour - Post Covid get-together with girl friends!!!

Raw Edge Appliqué, 14" Square

3. Segmented - In our echo chambers, we remain divided.

Quilt as You Go, 14.5" Square

4. Zahra - Imagining a trip to Morocco

Paper Pieced, 14" Square

Each one was rejected. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

I was deeply disappointed... It was impossible not to be when I had poured myself into the challenge.

I know I must be detached from the outcome. I know that I must focus only on the effort and not fixate upon the rewards, Hindu scriptures tell me. But I am a work in progress and not there yet.

All my darlings - Love you so much!!!

Someone had the soul-crushing task of rejecting these lovelies.  I feel very sorry for them.

Then Paul and I went on a mini vacation and I could not dwell upon the pain any more. Here are a few glimpses from our weekend. We stayed at The Inn Berlin. I cannot recommend this place enough.  Maya's Eggs Benedict can really make the world seem a better place.

And it is impossible to be sad when the sea breeze is whipping your hair into a frenzy.

Chincoteague Boat Tour

Pelicans posed for us :-)

We watched the birds and horses up close. We even saw a few dolphins but they were too quick and could not be captured in an image.  The white horse in the picture below was just being lazy. He got up later.

Horses gathered together for a photo

We went to a Water Park in Ocean City. Initial hesitation turned into glee and laughter as we experienced different rides and myriad ways of landing/splashing/thrashing into the water.

Splash Mountain in Ocean City

Happy and Exhausted

The day ended with some yummy seafood.

Bacon Wrapped Scallops

We visited the Windmill Creek Winery.  The Mariner's House is beautifully maintained and the visitors are free to visit, take a glass of wine and sit anywhere inside or outside under the mulberry trees (which were laden with fruit at this time) and there was a tree swing. Yes, a TREE SWING!!!.

Well-maintained Mariner's House

Stepping back in time

I enjoyed several minutes on the tree-swing which brought back childhood memories and I was happy as can be :-)

I am a kid...

Picture Perfect - I am All Yours

This was out first post Covid vaccination and it was divine!!!

In other news (and there is plenty of it) I have received the second box of Island Batik goodies. The video is coming on July 22, 2021.  I have completed the July challenge for Island Batik and that post is coming next. Novella, the Table Runner is going to be a pattern. Sarah, JoleeKatrin, Maya, and Yvonne have graciously agreed to test my pattern. Thank you ladies. You are awesome!!!

I am sure I am forgetting something...

Oh yes. Feedburner is going away. To ensure that you don't miss any of my posts, please follow me on Bloglovin.  Sometime later in July I will have a giveaway (Details Coming).  Extra chances if you follow me on Bloglovin and Instagram.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, be they purple, painful or positivity-laden.  Reading your comments gives me a feeling similar to the sea breeze in my hair :-)  I will be sharing with all my favorite linky parties. See full list on the sidebar.

  1. well I love all of those pieces that were rejected - what were they thinking! I love your vacation photos also - we too took our first vacation since before Covid and got back earlier in the week - wasn't it wonderful to get out!!

  2. That looks like a most wonderful vacation, Preeti! Definitely the way to soothe your soul. I'm sorry those amazing minis were rejected. I agree, that would be a hard job to have. Meanwhile, I love your Positivity blocks and am off to make more of my own!

  3. Oh, there is so much goodness in this post (and a bit of sadness to keep us centered). Your vacation looks like so much fun! I’m glad you two were able to go out, have fun and make wonderful memories.

  4. Your vacation looked divine! I am anxious to plan some type of vacation for later this summer. My husband and I do not agree on what would be fun. He wants to play golf and go see major league baseball, but I want to sit on a beach. LOL Gorgeous quilty eye candy today too!

  5. I think your little minis are wonderful and so creative (who knows what judges are looking for, right?).
Looks like your lovely vacation blew away all your sorrowful feelings...

  7. Purple makes my heart sing and I have had some purple flowers added to my garden! I am sorry about Curated Quilts, those quilts are all lovely and at least one should have made it in! So much positivity and now, back to my sewing room to finish creating mine!

  8. What a disappointment that not one of your four made the cut. But you are right - don't focus on the outcome. Those juried competitions are so subjective it's not even funny. Enjoy the process! All of the purples are beautiful - my favorite color! Your vacation looks amazing and I am so glad that we are finally able to do a few things and get back to normal a little, even if it is a bit altered from what it was before. I think it will take many of us quite a while to feel safe enough to return to full normal, but that isn't a bad thing.

  9. Your little quilts are all beautiful - give them a loving pat from me! Your vacation looks so fun - I'm leaving Monday with my kids for our fist one! Can't wait. Your positivity blocks are looking great.

  10. I am drooling over your bacon-wrapped scallops, your wine, and your eggs Benedict as much as I am drooling over your purple quilt blocks and your glorious Purple In the Wild. I grieve with you for the challenge pieces that were not accepted. You can never predict what the individual judges will be drawn to on the day of decision making. They are beautiful, each one of them, and we grow with every effort. Claude Monet was rejected by the Paris art salons, too, so you’re in good company…. Love and hugs to you!

  11. I love your purples and am so sorry about the minis! They are fun. It looks like you had a really nice vacation- we went camping with 2 other couples last week and it was so wonderful! I hope we are on the upswing for real.

  13. You & Paul are adorable! I’m glad you had such a lovely time on your first post vaccination excursion. Your quilts are always beautiful Preeti! It would suck to be the person who rejected your four 16 inch polygon minis.

  17. I like them all, but I’m especially drawn to the chunky one. Can’t imagine why they weren’t chosen.

  18. Love the QOV option on the Pos quilt! Sorry about your entries--it's hard when you put so much into it, I know, but hopefully there is comfort in know you tried your best!

  19. What a beautiful collection of purple!

Your work is beautiful. I'm sorry they were rejected, but they are amazing.

  20. What a pretty set of purples. Once again I am studying them to see how to pick fabrics with vivid prints that still read as a single color. I'm sorry that your quilts weren't accepted. (They didn't ask me to be a curator. :/ ) I'm getting such a kick over Happy Hour. I'm so glad you could have such a lovely vacation. Keep being a kid! We are finally planning a little get away, but have to wait a bit because the rentals are stuffed full this summer. (I can't imagine why.) I bet you are thrilled with the response to the Positivity QAL. I'm enjoying all the glimpses of your top. Thanks for all the time and spirit you put into the QAL.

  21. How disappointing to have all those lovely mini quilts rejected! Well done for not letting that sadness ruin your vacation :)

  22. "Into each life some rain must fall" (H W Longfellow), but "The sun will come out tomorrow" (Charles Strouse, Martin Charnin). You are way too busy to be sad for long. Love this post in all it's purpleliciousness. And as expected, I have not made a single positivity block, but I will. And since I don't have a blog, I can't link up anyway, but I'll post on IG as soon as I get some done. Isn't it nice to finally feel safe enough to get out into the world?

  23. Personally I love your little quilts -- all four of them. Good for you for trying. There are always other hows/challenges. Your purple blocks are great. And what a group of purple items you found. I'm ready to link up as soon as I get my blog written! Off to visit Bernie's site!

  24. Delightful 'purple' blocks! And I'm sorry too your quilts weren't accepted, but as others have commented, I guess we never know what the judge{s} look for... and... I suspect it's different. every. time!

  29. What beautiful blocks. I'm always looking for ways to use extra squares. The hydrangea is gorgeous. Always a joy to see one.
Happy vacation! How brave you are and what fun you had. The pelicans remind me of one of my favorite quilts by Ruth McDowell. I'll have to look it up again.

  30. Wow! That is a lot of purple, a great time away....and now I am ever so hungry for eggs Benedict!
