Welcome to Day Two of Island Batik's August 2021 Blog Hop - Try a Tool.
My assignment was to use the Butterfly Blooms collection and the Corner Pop 3 Ruler to make a project.
Let's first feast our eyes on the lovely fabrics.
Inspiration Board |
If you like these fabrics, you are about to be dazzled...by how bright they look in person.
On my cutting table |
These colors remind me of the Crape Myrtle trees that are in full bloom these days.
On my morning walk (looking at the trees, ignoring the trashcan) |
Perfect match!!! |
If the base of the finished triangle is 1.5" the height of the triangle will be 4.5".
New to the CP3 ruler I started with a few practice blocks.
Cut fabric |
Its a start |
Half Mirror image = Diamond Block |
Black is beautiful |
I prefer the black background, I said aloud. Paul said that he liked the neutral background. Hmmm...
So I made half light and half dark blocks and arranged in a checkerboard pattern.
Ya Basic!!! |
This layout did not appeal to me and I felt disappointed. I turned to newly acquired EQ8. Here are a few ideas that I discarded.
Blah |
Whatever |
Boring |
Seriously? NO!!! |
Tortured |
Finally!!!
Aha!!! |
Now we were in business...

Sunny day on the banks of the Potomac |
Mission Accomplished!!!
But wait there is more. My initial concept was a pillow cover.
Enjoying EQ8 |
But that was discarded in favor of a wall hanging (or a table runner).
It is time to go "Back to School". These fish are so yummy I can just eat them up :-D
Back to School (13" by 57") |

I am always amazed at how many projects you complete! They're all fabulous and the fish are cute! That would make a great pattern for your Etsy shop. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou always meet the challenge and then go above and beyond it, too! Beautiful fabric and lots of interesting design possibilities with the tool/block. You can never go wrong with a star block, but I really love Jacqueline!
ReplyDeleteI just love the fish! the stars too - lovely and the fabric is a plus
ReplyDeleteAll of your projects are beautiful, but I love Cinderella!
ReplyDeleteEach quilt is just fantastic, Preeti, but I'm terribly fond of the fish! What fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful trio of Sisters! And how in the world do you get so many quilts made? Love those batiks - the colors you used are some of my favorite!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! Cinderella is of course my favourite :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool technique!
Wonderful use of the ruler! I love them all, but the fishes want me to go to school with them. Have fun with EQ....if you need any help feel free to find me!
ReplyDeletePretty projects. I like seeing your thinking process for the layout.
ReplyDeleteAh, Preeti, of course you made four quilts. How could you not, with such pretty fabric? I love the fish! They are very original and fun. The stars are quite lovely, too, especially Jacqueline. I'd say you met the challenge really well!
ReplyDeleteWow, Preeti! That's a whole lot of pretty! I love them ALL! I keep thinking one is my favorite, then I'll look at a picture of one of the others and decide THAT's my favorite! Love the names, too, and how you have the trio of sisters. And the fish!!!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love all that you've created here! Those fish are so cute!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, each and every one!

ReplyDeleteLove this fabric line and ALL your projects, Preeti!! You definitely met the challenge, and Cinderalla does NOT have any ugly step-sisters!! LOL
ReplyDeleteOoooh, you had me at 'butterflies!' And I see butterflies in 'Blah' and 'Whatever'. 'Tortured' is intriguing. And your first blocks make me think of ballerinas. And the 'fish'. They make me giggle.
ReplyDeleteYOU are such a productive woman............sigh.
Wow they are all so beautiful!! I think the fish would make a great child's quilt.
ReplyDeleteSo many patterns from this one ruler. Awesome!!! Your projects are great!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your pink and purple fish!
ReplyDeleteSo many projects and so pretty. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
ReplyDeleteSo many pretty projects, Preeti!! And I know why they tugged at me when I saw them. I heard my small daughter’s voice many years ago when asked what her favorite color was: “pinkpurpleandturquoise.” Yup those colors still say “happy.” I love the stars, but I’m intrigued by the fish tails, trying to figure out just how you did the piecing on those. I love the delicate structures of the fish.
ReplyDeleteCindereally really is a beauty! But I am most impressed with how you get there. You just start... play around... ponder it some more and then finish your star item. And the three others that "just happend along the way" ;) We both know, how I would do it... xo Melanie
ReplyDeleteThe three ladies are beautiful, but it is the fish that have stolen my heart. I can almost see their pointy fins swishing through tropical waters. Thanks for sharing your preliminary designs. It's fun to see all of the possibilities.
ReplyDeleteLove the fish!
ReplyDeleteAll three of your "tools" quilts turned out beautifully. I love EQ8 for figuring out what to try next for a quilt layout. Happy stitching this weekend.
ReplyDeleteWow, 4 projects to feature the new toy! I see you totally master the CP3 ruler ;)) These fabrics are gorgeous, and you made four very beautiful quilts with them. Love the cute ladies, and the yummy runner too!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing and linking up today!
Great blocks created in a unique way. Have an awesome week.
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed at the many variations you make for your Island Batik challenges. Coming up with multiple design ideas is one thing, but you actually end up with completed quilts for all those designs--incredible!
ReplyDeleteVery inventive! You found a sea of creativity with this tool
ReplyDeleteA beautiful, creative post Preeti, love the quilts and the fish and how you have quilted them. Those batik fabrics are just wonderful too. Well done.
