Welcome to TGIFF – Thank Goodness Its Finished Friday on my blog – we open Thursday evening and close Saturday at midnight to allow bloggers from all over the world to post their finished quilt projects.
Austin was first published in the Make Modern Magazine Issue 60.
It is now available in my Etsy Shop as a standalone pattern.
Designed in EQ8 and made with Island Batik fabrics from the Peppermint Sprinkles collection, Austin finished at 60" by 80". It is a perfect size for charity quilts.
Austin |
Austin is a modern take on the Quilt of Valor theme. A longitudinal design is reinforced by long borders (only on the sides) and walking foot quilting in one direction. Using just four fabrics plus the background, Austin relies on simplicity for his appeal.
Walking Foot Quilting |
The detailed directions include step by step guidance and colored graphics show the dimensions of each cut fabric for easy reference.
Crushing on You |
Priced at $11, you can get Austin at a discount of 25% ($8.25) for one week. Sale ends Thursday, 4/10/25.
Labelled |
Two lucky readers can get the Austin pattern (or any other pattern of your choice) for free. Please leave me a comment on this post, telling me your most (or least) favorite thing about Spring. If you show up as Anonymous, please include your email address so that I can reach you. I will pick the winners next week.
Hullo Handsome! |
Do you ever look at a quilt and wonder - how would this look in a different colorway? I often do :-)
I recolored Austin using two different Fabric collections. Here is one. Check the Etsy listing to see the other colorway.
Austin in Petal Poetry |
In other news, I made some super fun braided placemats to promote Kate Colleran's new book.
Using Island Batik scraps and the mini braid tool, I cut lots of small units.
Cutting Braid Units |
Kate's book has 13 projects in varying levels of complexity. Take a look.
Making Braids |
I chose a black background, of course. It makes all these warm colors pop and sparkle!

Plenty of mediums and darks. I think I need a couple more lighter values. What do you think?
Now it is your turn. Join the Party
The rules are simple – share your quilting finish for this week. The linky party is open from 6 pm on Thursday, April 3rd through midnight on Saturday, April 5th.
Thank you so much for hosting TGIFF this week, Preeti, and congratulations on the pattern launch!! (Please pick someone else for your very generous prizes if I am somehow randomly selected.)
ReplyDeleteSpring? Allergies make me cranky, but sitting outside with tea, a book and my pups can't be beat.
ReplyDeleteI love Austin! I'm picturing him with a dark background, browns, golds and burgundies making for a Navajo blanket look. (Obviously I'm still stuck in winter) ;-).
I like the design of Austin, and the braids, too! My fav about Spring is the robins returning and the daffodils coming up!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty design. My favorite thing about spring is a warm windy day. My least favorite is its allergy season!
ReplyDeletevery nice design - Coming from snow and dreary, My favorite Spring thing is the promise of sunshine.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful design, and I can picture this quilt wrapped around a deserving veteran at a QOV ceremony. It looks great in the other colors too. The braided placemat is a great idea! Spring - I love seeing everything turning green with new growth.
ReplyDeleteI do love the braids and Austin is fabulous! What I don’t like about spring is allergies and all the pollen on my car not to mention the hot weather is coming…I know I sound like a Debbie Downer. On the bright side, I like to hear the birds chirping and everything comes alive with new growth. august1375.c @ aol dot com
ReplyDeleteHi Preeti! Austin is a fabulous design and it's perfect to accommodate so many colorways for holidays. I'd like to make it using up some pretty scraps and make each section different. That would be fun! Spring is my favorite season as the weather warms here in Iowa and I can finally open the windows to let in fresh air and hear the returning birds sing!
ReplyDeleteI'm hungry for SUNSHINE!!!! And flowers.
ReplyDeleteAustin is very handsome. I won last year so I yield my spot to someone else.

Now see, I was thinking Austin, TEXAS initially rather than QOV. I can see how this would be a great pattern for lots of different fabrics and color stories and I love the look of extending the background with borders just on the sides of the quilt.
ReplyDeleteAustin is absolutely perfect for a Quilt of Valor quilt!
ReplyDeleteAm from India. We do have our share of spring in a way. Colorful flowers bloom and we can hardly have enough of it. sushmanidhi75@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteAustin is a neat pattern with good options for different colors! When I had 2 dogs the muddy spring in the yard was not fun. I'm sure the dogs didn't care, but we sure didn't like the cleanups day after day!
ReplyDeleteAustin is a great looking pattern! It is perfect as a QOV, but would look terrific in other colors too. Love your braid placemats, too.
ReplyDeleteAustin shows off the fabrics really well, simple but not boring. Congrats on the new pattern!
ReplyDeleteI no longer get my favorite things about spring. Two years ago we moved to the Nashville area, but my favorite thing is a New England thing. My whole family will tell you that my favorite thing is the color of spring leave just after a rain. For decades we lived on the edge of a forest, every year there would be at least one day where my soul was filled by the trees around me. Sarahs gift n ship at gmail dot com , no spaces.
ReplyDeleteYeah for another publisher pattern! Love this one too, and the second version is also lovely. The braids are fabulous, very pretty with the black background. I love Spring because of the sun, I'm like a lizard, I need to feel the warmth of the sun on my bones. But unlike Summer, this sun will not burn my skin too badly ;))
ReplyDeleteAustin is a beautiful quilt, Preeti! I loved the close-up shots of that pretty fabric. Your braided placemats are fun, too. The black background definitely makes those colors pop! Thanks for the pattern giveaway! My favorite thing about spring is seeing all the green begin to emerge out of bare branches and ground.
ReplyDeleteAustin is a beauty! I love Spring. . .the color green as the new leaves are forming is such a unique shade!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing all of your projects. I do love the red and blue theme of Austin the best. The vertical lines of the pattern are quite nice. The placemats are beautiful and would look good on any table. I look forward to seeing your "red" projects this month.
ReplyDeleteAustin is very handsome in the Patriotics, and so springy in the green and purple. My favorite thing about spring is cool evenings and warm days!!
ReplyDeleteFavorite thing about Spring is warmer weather. Least favorite thing about Spring is the windy season we have here. Daryl. patchouli.moon.studio at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteAustin is a winner. Will you be hosting TGIFF every week now? I don't generally write more than 1 blog a week but I'm trying to do something toward the end of the week... but it's been hit and miss. Sigh.
