Island Batik's September Challenge and Blog Hop theme is Adventurous Applique and is jointly sponsored by Aurifil Threads.
Here is my response.
Finished! |
For this challenge we were to use our assigned Spring 2024 Bundles along with the matching threads provided by Aurifil.
I received Geometric Symphony designed by Jerry Khiev. This collection has beige, fuchsia and navy fabrics in bold geometric prints.
Geometric Symphony |
Aurifil Threads |
We knew about the theme of the challenge for months and I had come up with several possible ideas. But when I saw the fabric, I had to discard each one of them. The bold geometric designs did not lend themselves to my delicate applique dreams. The large prints would overpower any small bird, cute butterfly or a petite mushroom.
I had to redesign using a larger block that could do justice to the bold prints, while making sure it wasn't overpowered by the fabric itself.
EQ8 Mock up |
The flower top and the stems are pieced, while the rounded part of the flower and the leaves are appliqued.
I used the Orange Peel Accuquilt Die to make the leaves. Thank you, Emily for letting me borrow your die.
First Block |
The background fabric is Glaze (Neutrals) and I used Dark Grey (Solid) for stems. Once the blocks were pieced, it was time to match threads.

Basting |
A Bloomful Day |
Bob and Blooms |
Blooms in Blooms |
Bloomtown finished at 52" by 56". I used 12/20 fabrics. The background, border, sashing and binding is Glaze. I used Schmetz 80/12 Microtex Needle for piecing and quilting. The batting is Thermore by Hobbbs.
The remaining eight fabrics, 1/2 yard each for a total of 4 yards can be yours. Please leave me a comment on this post, letting me know your favorite from the Island Batik Spring 2024 Collections. If you show up as Anonymous or No-Reply, please include your email so that I can reach you.
I will announce the winner on 9/24/24.
Giveaway Update - The winner is #35. Email sent.
If you don't want/need the fabric, you can still leave me a comment mentioning as much. I so appreciate your support :-)

ReplyDeleteYour quilt designs are so creative and cheerful-thank you for sharing your process . Floral Fun is my favorite. Thanks! villagequilter@ gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteLove you quilt, it so beautiful! Thanks for sharing! I love to read all your posts and love how you take such wonderful pictures of your quilts. I'm downsizing my fabric collection, so don't need more fabric. Just wanted to comment as a faithful follower!
ReplyDeleteI love your collection of geometrics most. Perhaps because of how you handled it in your applique. That truly was a challenge. Whatever is left will surely blend with the batiks I have and inspire me to create my own quilt. lhs4664atq.com That is q as in quilts.
ReplyDeleteLove your design! It's always hard to choose a favorite, but I'll say Daisy Mae.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful. I really like the photo shoot. But what is this delicate applique dream you have? I hope we get to see that in the future. Happy Sewing!
ReplyDeleteI like the flowers in your quilt. I love the colors in “Flower Pot”. You always do a good job with the challenge. Dortha at aol dot com
ReplyDeleteWow! You chose well - the larger pieces really showcase those bold batiks. Gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! I think Floral Fun and Poetic Bouquet are my favorite lines this season.
ReplyDeleteYour flower design is a beauty! I really enjoyed reading about your process making the blocks, Preeti - the combination of piecing and applique worked so well. Fun photos, too! Thank you for the giveaway - I love Twilight!
ReplyDeleteSweet design! My favorite collection is Tranquil Moments.
ReplyDeletePoetic Bouquet and Tranquil Moments is a close second. Your quilt is darling. Thank you. (ritaanneh at gmail dot com).
ReplyDeleteMy favorite of this collection is Poetic Bouquet, or perhaps Floral Fun. Such a nice quilt!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt, and stunning photos!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite collection is Poetic Bouquet.
Oops! forgot to log in first--sorry!
DeleteI adore your quilt....and your fabric is my favorite!!!
ReplyDeleteI love love love your quilt! Tulips are my favourite flower, and they're so bold and beautiful in your quilt! My favourite collection is the Poetic Bouquet.
ReplyDeleteI love the flowers, turned out wonderful. I guess Poetic Bouquet and Playful Posies but honestly they are all fabulous. Jmikebalou(at) aol (dot)com
ReplyDeleteUgh, I am such a sucker for the purple/pink combo!! Therefore your quilt is just gorgeous to me!! Those geometrics are really inspiring. So...geometrics in purple and pink, Yes please!! Anne akyork1960@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteYou are such a talented quilter! I like the tranquil moments collection.
ReplyDeleteLove everything about this - from the large flowers that show off the prints to the cohesion (and calm) achieved using the same print for the leaves on each stem. I think a pattern is in order! Like your fabric collection, but I'm also drawn to Poetic Bouquet. basaran (dot) family (at) rogers (dot) com
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is magnificent. Hoping there will be a pattern in the future. Your quilting with a serpentine stitch always motivates me. Getting ready to tackle the largest quilt I have ever done on my domestic, an 80 x 80. Wish me luck. The Twilight Batik bundle would be my choice. Love blues and yellow/golds together.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt. I always appreciate how you take us through your process. In this case, having to start from scratch with your ideas, all the way to a beautiful finished quilt that shows off the pattern and fabrics perfectly. I like all of the collections, but am drawn to Tranquil Moments because I love bold colours, but it is nice to take a break and calm down sometimes. I am in Canada so understand if I don't qualify for the generous giveaway due to postage costs. KJ
ReplyDeleteAnother great quilt and I just love a purple fabric. As a previous winner of one of your giveaways I am happy to step aside this time. Good luck to you all
ReplyDeleteAnother beauty Preeti! I love the Flower Pot line but they are all beautiful. Have a great day! cmberry@lsu.edu
ReplyDeleteCharlotta58@gmail.com here - hi Preeti, another lovely and beautiful quilt. You just never disappoint. I’m amazed at the range of your creativity. But I guess that’s the reason you have been chosen to be an ambassador. They made a great choice. 🧡
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite fabric line has to be Geometric Symphany. I love both the colors featured and the graphic designs in the fabrics.
I don’t tend to work with batiks very much and forget how versatile they are. So it’s a delight every time I discover a line like this with so much depth and beauty.
You did it again! A very crisp design.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love batiks, I don't need any more and yield my opportunity to someone else.
What a fun finish, very pretty. It had to be frustrating to come up something completely new when you saw the fabrics. You definitely met the challenge.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you had to redo your design, but your instinct was right for this. The fabrics show off nicely and really compliment the flowers! Lovely quilt. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

Hard to pick a favorite, but Poetic Boquet is lovely--and your quilt is so lovely also!! barbkaup(at)(yahoo)(dot)(com)
ReplyDeleteI love Floral Fun, though there are many i will use.
ReplyDeleteHi Preeti, what a great way of using that fabric. Those large bold fabrics really pop. I love the idea of piecing the flower top and then appliquéing the bottom. Well done I love all of those fabrics but Poetic Bouquet is very me :-) Thanks for linking up to Free Motion Mavericks.
ReplyDeletePoetic Bouquet is my favorite collection, because I love the luscious purples. And I love the purples in your quilt too - and the boldness of the design. The quilt makes me smile. Your photography is awesome too. The quilt looks great on Bob. Thank you for sharing your work.
ReplyDeleteI seem to be in a floral mode: I was trying to decide between Daisy May and Flower Pot, but now your Tulips have me thinking about your bold fabric. wordygirl11@me.com
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! Love Twilight! Lee. Butler83@aoldotcom
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Great photo shoot with the fuschia-colored flowers. You are so creative and it was a great idea to use the AccuQuilt die. I'll have to look for that one!
ReplyDeleteOh, lovely flowers! I love how you combined piecing and appliqué, adding the bottom of the flower this way is a great idea! This fabric collection is beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful finish! I like the pieced and applique combination and the colors. . .oooh la la!!!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteLove it, and great idea to piece part of the flower and appliqué the curve. Would not have thought of the orange peel die doing double duty for appliqué leaves but that's a great idea, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable quilt, Preeti!!! Love the colors and how a good show is made of the fabrics in the flowers!
ReplyDeleteI like Floral Fun. You have so many beautiful quilts. paweis@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteOh how pretty!! and wow- you nailed all those curves!
