Meet Garden City.
Designed in EQ8 and made using the Island Batik collection Shadow Blooms, Garden City is a layer-cake friendly quilt finishing at 64" by 88".
We chose a particularly cold and windy day to take pictures.
The collection includes Blues, Teals and Purples. I used Egg White (Neutrals) as Background. The Backing is Aruba (Tantalizing Teals). I used Hobbs Thermore Batting.
To make Garden City, you will need just one Layer Cake and 4.5 yards of Background fabric. The pattern is available in my Etsy Store. It includes colored graphics and step by step directions. Garden City is on sale (25% off) till Wednesday, 1/15/25.
What is a pattern release without a giveaway? So if you'd like a copy of the Garden City Quilt pattern, please leave me a comment on this blogpost, mentioning the favorite book (and author) you read in 2024. If you show up as Anonymous, please include your email so that I can reach you.
1/19/2025 Update - The two random numbers are #1 and #13.
#1 - Carolyn, you are a no-reply blogger. Please contact me at sewpreetiquilts at gmail so that I can send you your pattern.
#13 - GranChris - Email sent.
In other news, Island Batik has announced the slate of ambassadors for 2025. Slashing the number from 26 to just 22, the competition was even tougher this year. Many applicants did not make it. I am thrilled (and relieved) that I made the cut.
We have received our first box of supplies. I will share the Unboxing video and blogpost next week. But here is sneak peek.
I will be participating in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Angela has announced that January is Pink. Here are my selected pinks (Island Batik fabrics).
I am working on my January RSC 2025 blocks. Will show you when I post next time, along with the Unboxing video. Sharing with Angela's and all my other favorite linky parties. See full list on the sidebar.
Hope you stay safe, warm and dry.
Love your new quilt! My favorite book that I read last year was an ARC of Jennifer Weiner's new book 'The Griffin Sister's Greatest Hits'. It comes out on April 8th and it was probably the best book I read in 2024.
ReplyDeletethat is such a pretty line of fabric that you used
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! My favorite book of 2024 was "Martyr!" by Kaveh Akbar. It's impossible to describe. Funny, devastatingly sad, obviously written by a poet.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you made the cut, as if there was any doubt-you are a fabulous ambassador! The pattern is great and I love the colors you chose.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Naylor, closely followed by a reread never Let me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.
I like this pattern--it reminds me of a puzzle box. My favorite book of 2024 wasn't a single book, actually, it was the series of "Thursday Murder Club" books by Richard Osman which I tore through last year. The newest of them was released in 2024, "The Last Devil to Die". I highly recommend these. etalmage@earthlink.net
ReplyDeleteHi Preeti, Garden City is gorgeous in that fabric! I read many books this year and my favourite was "A Short Walk Through a Wide World" by Douglas Westerbeke. Thanks so much for linking up to Free Motion Mavericks!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern. The fabrics really make it pop. Thanks for sharing. I would love to win a copy!
ReplyDeleteI love Garden City, and the backing is absolutely striking! (Can you point me to an Island Batiks' stocklist?) My favorite book this year was "Lessons in Chemistry" by Bonnie Garmus. (I know how Elizabeth Zott would have voted in 2024...) Do you have a list of all of your layer-cake friendly patterns? Also, do (any of) your patterns have alternative sizes? Sorry for all the questions, but inquiring minds...
ReplyDeleteI like this pattern and the fabrics you used. One of my favorite books I read last year is, "Kitchen Table Wisdom, Stories that Heal," by Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D. Another book is, "The Beautiful Madness of Martin Bonham," by Robert Hudson.
ReplyDeleteHey Preeti! Happy New Year!?! I read a lot of good books, and Tom Lake by Ann Patchett was at the top. Your new quilt pattern looks like a fun romp! It always makes me excited when I see your email in my inbox.😁
ReplyDeleteI was re-reading the entire JD Robb "In Death" series in 2024 - impossible to pick a favorite. The pattern is beautiful and would be perfect for scraps! Deb mdenders@msn.com
ReplyDeleteI was going to compliment you on the great new design -- but, wow, a giveaway! I'm in. Best reading for 2024? I highly recommend I Cheerfully Refuse by Leif Enger.
ReplyDeleteThe Girls Who Stepped Out of Line by Maj Gen Mari Eder. I love women and history. I am looking for any great lap quilt patterns that I can use for charity sewing. Need some new ideas. Jmikebalou (at) aol (dot) com
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I'm so glad that you will continue being an ambassador. I love your work and your inspirational and entertaining blog posts.
ReplyDeleteGarden City is a great design, made up in beautiful fabrics. Congratulations on being and Island Batiks ambassador again. (I'm not at all surprised they would want you to continue!)
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite books for 2024 was The Measure by Nikki Erlick.
Great job! It's funny how I am working on the same quarter block and yet, didn't get this pattern out of it. Bravo! ;^)
ReplyDeleteI just love that quilt pattern. I am always trying to think of ways to use up my ongoing stash of squares. This would be a great one to add to the list. Maybe next year? So many quilts and so few hours in a day.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty quilt!!! My favorite book this year was *Don't forget to write* by Sara Goodman
ReplyDeleteGreat pattern and I love the blues! Congrats on being chosen an Island Batik ambassador again this year! I’m hoping to join the RSC again this year too. My favorite read in 2024 was The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on being picked to be an ambassador again- IB has a good one in you! That is a gorgeous line of fabric and I love the quilt you designed for it. It's hard to pick a favorite book, but I'll go with The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteClearly you don't know how many books I read/listen to, Preeti. So, selecting a favorite for 2024 is basically impossible. One of the best to listen to was Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent coauthored by Judi Dench and Brendan O'Hea.
ReplyDeleteAnother great quilt pattern. It does look as though it was inspired by city garden plots. The photo of you letting it fly in the wind exemplifies this.
Wow! That's some box to start the new year with. That should keep you busy.
No favorite books for 2024, I don't think I read one - shame on me! However, I do love this pattern and am so glad you are an ambassador again!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for being an ambassador next year! My favorite book was "Would You Kill The Fat Man?" by David Edmonds. Patty.

I’m so glad you are joining in at RSC. And of course you made the cut! You are prolific and I love reading your blog. My favorite book this year was “ Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt.
ReplyDeletecharlotta58@gmail.com - love the new quilt! I’m just amazed that you’re able to keep designing new great patterns all the time! I’ve already purchased this pattern from your Etsy shop, so don’t enter me in the competition. I’ll still tell you that one of my favorite books from last year was “Rogue Justice” by Stacey Abrams. I also read several non-fiction books I really liked but they’re more specific to my previous line of work and might not be of general interest.
ReplyDeleteLove your new quilt! The Stories Clothes Tell: Voices of Working -Class Japan/Horikiri Tatsuichi was a favorite read. --TerryK@OngoingProjects (quilting00@aol.com)
ReplyDeleteI love that color palette. Well done on your finish.
ReplyDeleteCongrats for making the cut for the Island Batiks Ambassadors. Garden City is a wonderful quilt. My favorite book from last year Lulu Dean's Little Library of Banned Books by Kristen Miller. It was a great read.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new pattern and on making the list of Ambassadors again this year. Looking forward to seeing what you make with all those wonderful batiks.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new pattern. It's great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty quilt! Congratulations on the new pattern. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

Oooooh, what a lovely quilt, and the fabric collection is beautiful too. Congratulations for being an IB Ambassador again, but why wouldn't they have selected you, you are the best and your patterns are lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!
Another beauty and such beautiful fabrics. I love seeing them up close. I enjoy how you share your journey, Madam Ambassador! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to receive this pattern and make it. Thank you so much. Chris
