Chaos and Order

Clay's quilt was well-received. He promptly put it on his bed, took a picture and sent it to me with a thank you note. I was so gratified!!!

Clay's Quilt

And then, the next day, I received a separate card from his wife plus a gorgeous silver necklace that she made for me.

Jewelry + Me = Happiness

My expression says it all.

So, what else is going on, you may ask.

There were 31 snowball blocks in Clay's quilt. This means there are 31 times 4 = 124 HSTs, tempting me to make something with them.

Bonus HSTs

Working on Clay's quilt, I realized that I have very little purple in my stash. Had to correct that problem.

Purples

In doing so, a couple of other fabrics just jumped into my cart.

What is a girl to do? I lovingly adopted them all.

I was so focused on achieving the July OMG, that the Honey Pot bee blocks had fallen behind. Now, I jumped into it with gusto.

Cute Mushrooms

Magic Mushrooms

The mushroom block was super-fun and so cute. I made two of those.  I also made the tree blocks from a few months ago.

Christmas Trees

This lattice block was a little more complicated. But it still turned out fine.

Urban Woven

There are four more bee blocks to make and one is paper-pieced. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH.

I do have a goal for August but I do not want to share pictures as yet.  It is a twin-bed size quilt for a boy. Here is the backing and the binding. The blocks are in the process.

Backing & Binding for August OMG

And speaking of wide backing, I bought another one, since Connecting Threads is having a sale on wide backings - 25% off.

Wide Backing from Connecting Threads

As you can see I have plenty of chaos to sort through, projects to organize, fabrics to choose, and a post (or two) to write.

If order comes from chaos, then I am half way there.

So what shall I focus on? The boy quilt, the leftover HSTs, the bee blocks or something else.  What represents chaos for you? Do let me know. I will be connecting with all my linky parties.

  2. Gorgeous quilt Clay gets to enjoy! Goes perfectly with his purple wall! And a classy thanks, as well. Looks like lots of fun stuff under your needle. The mushrooms are adorable.

  3. Wow both the quilt and the necklace are gorgeous. How cool that the pillows appear to go really well with the quilt too. And, kudos for having a shirt that works perfectly with the necklace. Just jumped into your cart??? Right. But all of your additions to the stash are great. I particularly like the little dogs. A couple of months ago I bought a wide back from CT too. It worked really well.

  4. Clay's quilt looks fantabulous on his bed! How sweet he was so pleased, he sent a pic. His wife was obviously pleased, as well, and thr necklace is just beautiful. Love all your Bee blocks and pretty new fabric. It's a tough decision and if it was me, I'd have all three under construction at once! And knowing me, probably something else, as well! Have a happy day!

  6. Doesn't it just make you feel warm and fuzzy to actually see your quilts in use :) And how sweet of Clay's wife to make that beautiful necklace for you. Beautiful necklace for a beautiful lady. And I am simply drooling over that blue backing fabric for your latest quilt.

  7. How nice to have your work appreciated! There is a little bit of chaos here, but it sounds like you're conquering it. I think you should work on the hsts first, so they don't get lost and become a UFO. If you put them away you'll never use them. Then do the boy quilt. Then put on that fabulous necklace and go out to dinner with your hubby. Win, win, win! :)

  11. What a great quilt and to see it in it's home is great. The thank you necklace is beautiful. I think I'm heading over to check out the backing sale.

  12. I curious to see what you do with all your leftover HST. I working with Kaffe fabrics right now and already have plans for the leftovers. Chaos to me is when things are out of control. I don't consider having too many projects to choose from being a problem.

  13. The quilt looks totally different (and better!) ON his bed! I got a much better idea of the scale and those fabric SING against his eggplant walls. I also am SO glad you showed the necklace ON you! It is so you - love the expression on your face. Glad to see you have a little chaos going on over there. Sadly I've let the Honeypot bee fall by the wayside, but I'm enjoying watching it for now. Your mushroom blocks are so cute--how can mushrooms be cute? You sure made them that way. :-) (and I dislike INTENSELY mushrooms...

  14. The quilt looks amazing on the bed and the necklace looks amazing on you. You have lots of choices going forward and you are doing a good job of keeping up with the honey pot bee....me not so much but oh well.

  15. I love this quilt and it is perfect in that pretty room. The wall paint pulls out some of the darker colors in the quilt and really sets it off. How lovely that she made you the pretty necklace. It looks great with your pretty smile.

Now about that question: In truth my sewing studio is perhaps the most chaotic place in my life. I can handle all the other stuff--dusty furniture, crazy kids, falling behind on a project. That sewing room, though, is supposed to be a calm place. My happy place. Well, my happy place is a wreck and I have no excuse for it now. So, guess what I'll be doing soon. :)

  17. Isn't it just puzzling how those fabrics just jump into your arms in the quilt shop? And then you have to take them home, of course! You picked up some lovely ones. Your quilts are beauties, and so is that necklace!

  18. Clay's quilt is gorgeous. At the moment, I'm trying to organise my chaos by setting myself the goal of either throwing out or giving away three things every day!

  19. I do love having left over HST's after a project. I know you will come up with something when you do get to piecing them. Love your necklace!! And that content look on you face too!

  21. There is something so satisfying about getting an actual thank you note in the mail these days, isn't there? Good for Clay and his wife! You sure do have a knack for picking out very cool fabrics! That blue print is awesome!

  22. Love the lattice block along with the trees! It's also wonderful that you received not one, but two thank you notes. Hubby and I believe it says a lot about the character of the individual. Thanks for sharing on Midweek Makers this week!

  25. So wonderful he took a pic of it on his bed just for you! Oh that necklace is so cool and you have the perfect shirt to wear it with:) Chaos-mine is starting, getting ready for the craft shows, 1.5 months away till the first one, YIKES-so many things in one stage or another and yet somehow I manage to get most of them done and ready to go.

  26. I love seeing quilts in their natural habitats. 😉 Your blocks look awesome. I wish you the best with your goal.

  27. Wow, the quilt fits perfectly. What a nice "received" picture. And the necless is a lovely gift.

I know the thing about leftover HSTs. Currently using up mine from Noah's quilt :)

When in chaos I try to remember Allison's words and sew on whatever project speaks to me most. At least when not pressed by deadlines. This has worked great for me. Just have to remember to not agree to more deadline things. And if the chaos is way too big, I like to physically clean my room some, make a list or two and plan a bit and then my mind gets clam again, too.

PS Just love that green-pink mushroom

  28. The necklace is stunning. She was so kind to make it for you. I love getting a thank you picture and seeing a quilt I made being used by its owner.

Use up the HST's -- I have several little baggies of those and I want to make something with them. They are just calling to me!!
