Wish you a very happy 2023!
I have news. Island Batik has selected a new slate of ambassadors for 2023. And I am honored to have made the cut.
We have received the first shipment of our boxes and I am so excited to show you the goodies.
Here is a link to the Unboxing video.
Testing the set-up - Looking good! |
In February, we will be making a Puff Quilt. I have received the collection - Exuberance. This is an original collection by Deb Tucker of Studio 180 designs. This Fall 2022 collection should be available in stores in February 2023.
Island Batik Foundations Bundle includes four Solids, four Basics and four Blenders.

As always we received solid neutrals - 4 yards each of black, white and light grey, and 6 yards of another neutral. Mine is Pastry.
Solid Neutrals |
I received the Square Squared Ruler from Studio 180 Designs. For the May challenge and bloghop, I will use this ruler to make a quilt, using the Winter 2022 collection, which will remain a surprise till May.
A generous box of batting came from Hobbs. Four Queen-sized batts should be plenty till the next box arrives :-)
Aurifil Threads sent a color-builder box named Frangipani containing three spools of 50wt thread. We will be using these threads in our Crazy Quilting projects in April.

Schmetz Needles provided an assortment of needles.

We also received a generous helping of precut yumminess.
2.5" Strips of Opulent Orange from Gradations by Island Batik Basics
A pack of 10" squares of Ravishing Red, from Gradations by Island Batik Basics
A Pack of 2.5" Strips of Juicy Mosaics, a Fall 2022 Collection designed by Kathy Engle, should be available in stores in February 2023.
A Pack of 10" Squares of Celebrate, a Winter 2022 Collection designed by Kathy Engle, should be available in stores in May 2023.
My box also came with stash builders.
It is a challenge to accommodate so many new supplies into an already full studio space. So I took inventory and pulled out some duplicates from my stash builder strips. May be you can help me by taking these extras off my hands :-)
Prize 1 |
Prize 2 |
Yes, I am having a giveaway. I considered cutting up these strips into 5" squares. But decided against it. What if you want a rectangle 5" by 10" or you might prefer strips 2" and 3" wide. To be entered into the drawing for these 5" by WOF strips, please leave me a comment telling me what project you are working on. If you follow me on Instagram, you can leave me a second comment, mentioning your IG name. If you show up as Anonymous, please include your email in the comment.
With so many fabulous fabrics and lovely notions, I can hardly sit still. Trust me, I am sewing up a storm but that is a separate post :-) Come back on the 28th when I will announce the winners of the giveaway and share my works in progress.
In separate news, Angela has announced RSC 2023 and January is Bright blue. I will be playing along. Here is my fabric pull and the strips.

I just finished the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt, Chilhowie, this weekend. Tomorrow I will load a selvage churndash quilt onto the longarm.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on another year ahead with IB! I just finished a Valentine table runner yesterday, otherwise I am working on a UFO donation quilt.
ReplyDeleteSuch bold and bright fabrics, I love batiks though I don't sew with them very often. I just started a new project, a stay at home round robin. I'm looking forward to the next prompt on Monday.
ReplyDeleteI follow you on IG- Vickiscraftsandquilting
ReplyDeleteI am focusing on completing several tops I made last year. The quilts will go to a children's hospital.
ReplyDeleteLots of beautiful fabric, Preeti! You always make such beautiful quilts for your Island Batik projects - they are lucky to have you as an ambassador. I'm getting started on my RSC year with a blue and white project called Blueberry Taffy. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI follow you on IG as littlepenguinquilts!
ReplyDeleteGood morning and super-duper congratulations on being selected once again as an IB Ambassador. Your projects are always so beautiful with lovely batiks and interesting designs. Can't wait to see what all you come up with in 2023!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on another fun year! I think the needle choices are scary; cosplay as a challenge? Paul is so helpful!

ReplyDeleteI am trying to make Darth Vader around 60” but realized I don’t have enough fabric. joanneembury@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHey Preeti! I was excited to see a post from you in my inbox! I admire you and your beliefs so much and appreciate all that you do and say. I would be overwhelmed with all the goodies you receive as an Island Batiks ambassador! That being said, I am simultaneously working on The Quilt Show 2023 BOM, Homeward Bound; In Color Order Circus Log Cabin SAL, and Hawaiian fabrics quilt from trips to the various island quilt shops. Way too much for the design wall!!! Happy 2023 to you and your hubby and thanks for the giveaway. I’ll be working soon on your Topsy Turvy quilt with fabrics I won from a giveaway from Island Batiks….whew! ❤️
ReplyDeleteOops, it is Stitched in Color not In Color Order. So many wonderful quilt bloggers out there!!!

ReplyDeleteWorking on a guild challenge right now; always have charity blocks in process. Want to start Christmas quilts soon for my nieces while I am in the mood. Love your designs!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Batiks are my favorite fabric to work with. You have some exciting colors there. - Sara
ReplyDeleteHave fun creating with all your new goodies. I'm in between quilt projects. I would love to make a queen/King size batik quilt, been slowly gathering the fabrics. If I win the giveaway it would go to that project.

I am putting together an apron pattern for a group of senior ladies I teach sewing to...today I'll sew the apron so they can see it finished. Also, I'm getting ready to put together a sew as you go batting and backing for an older yo-yo quilt top for my niece, so she can use it as a quilt. Had to reinforce the stitching on the yo-yo's first! Not my favorite project, but she's looking forward to receiving it finished.

So many beautiful fabrics and notions to work with in your Island Batik box! I'm sure you're excited, but it would take me a while to get over the anxiety before the excitement sunk in. Oh, the pressures! :) I'm currently working on a pink Valentine mini wall quilt for Project Quilting. It's due this weekend, so I need to get my sewing wheels rolling.
ReplyDeleteThose batiks are beyond gorgeous. The sponsors were exceptionally generous and you will no doubt make beautiful use of everything you got. Thank you for this giveaway. Ritaanneh@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI'm working on two things. I always have a daily project going -- right now it's a random HST quilt where the HSTs are creating chevrons. Each day I just do one quick seam. The other thing is an odd little quilt top I created to have a hand-quilting project for the months ahead, easy to bring with me. I have to pin-baste that in the next few days to bring it along on a trip. There's a picture of it in my instagram...
ReplyDeleteI am staring at fabric for a quilt called Earl Grey Diamond Mosaic Mystery. I am also about 3/4 of the way finished with the hand quilting on another throw quilt. jgsowin@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI now follow you on Instagram, where I'm also mpv61. Here's my odd little quilt top https://www.instagram.com/p/CncztoZJXXP/ -- all the tan fabrics came from my tan/brown bin that I pretty much never use, so this was also an excuse to use up some stuff that's mostly ignored.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous array of fabric and extras. I look forward to seeing the creations you come up with in the coming months. They are always so beautiful. I am finishing quilt backings for two quilts going to be quilted and a label for one that just came back. I will be cutting into a charm pack tomorrow for my next project.
ReplyDeleteWhat machine projects am I working on? Several at a time, but sadly all left at home while we are enjoying our 3 month caravan trip in the South Island of New Zealand. But i do have a Noah's Ark stitchery with me to work on, plus a couple of knitting projects.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to have all those marvelous goodies to work with. I'll be interested to see how a puff quilt is made.
Just started a Mystery Quilt online and trying to write my own pattern, mostly I do charity quilts for the local "Almost Home Children's Nursing Home" Woodridge IL. Kids love the bright colors. And children's quilts are so fun make! Love reading your posts!
ReplyDeleteGreat video, Preeti! And a gorgeous array of fabrics! I really love that Celebrate collection!
ReplyDeleteI am working on a lap quilt for my sister - scrappy as that is what she requested! Beautiful fabrics and a puff quilt! I have never done one of those - it will be fun to see how its made!
ReplyDeleteI do follow you on instagram also!
ReplyDeleteOh what a bounty! Making a batik quilt is on my list for this year but I don't have much batiks...this would surely help!! Anne Akyork1960@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being chosen for another year as an Island Batik ambassador! I always look forward to seeing your new projects. My main project right now is finishing up a quilt for a guild challenge.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!!!!!! I'm in the middle of a baby boy quilt and a scrappy lap top for DH
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on being chosen as an Island Batik ambassador again. Well deserved. I am currently working on 3 cross stitch projects and 2 quilting projects. One quilting project is a Halloween BOM. I am taking the first block and turning it into a small quilt for the window this Halloween. The other item is a placemat for Project Quilting. I am hoping to do a placemat for each challenge.
ReplyDeleteHi Preeti,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I've been wondering if you and Island Batiks would renew each other's contracts. I can't wait to see what you create out of all that lusciousness. I can already hear your brain whirring!! and I live on the opposite side of the country.
I have done more knitting than anything else the last year. My quilt studio is probably missing me.
Wow, and wow. Congratulations as you begin your journey as an Island Batiks ambassador. This will be a lot of fun, with some tense moments as deadlines arrive so quickly in our lives. My current projects include trying to decrease my scrap backets ,I'm working on a quilt I'm calling "Wedding ring Blues" from the burgeoning basket of blues, and a Batik quilt "Pinata" which is an adaptation of the spiderweb block. wishing you a great year

Many congrats on being renewed as an IB Ambassador! Eagerly waiting to see your puff quilt. Truth be told I've lost my sewing mojo recently, but have hopes of experimenting this winter with a bag of tartan scraps gifted to me. Always have a donation quilt to work on as well. basaran.family (at) rogers (dot) com
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being an IB ambassador again!!! Your designs are always tops, Preeti!!! Love seeing the collection of fabrics you'll be working with this year! And those threads!!!
ReplyDeleteI’m doing several different things. A scrappy log cabin sew-along, a baby quilt for a friend’s first grandchild, starting my center for a Round Robin, and a blue quilt for a challenge show in my artists group.
ReplyDeleteSorry, didn’t mean to be anonymous, the above was posted by Charlotta Bright Norby charlotta58@gmail.com
DeleteSuch lovely fabrics! Looks like you won the batik lottery, especially with Exuberance. Thanks for sharing your announcement on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss. I'll watch for your projects throughout the year.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on being selected as an ambassador again - it's always fun to see what you come up with for the challenges!
ReplyDeleteYou are a wonder! Faced with all that fabric and then come up with a plan and execute it for each challenge. Amazing. I'd love to be part of the give-away and am partial to Prize 2. If they are 5" x WOF, that would suit me just fine. Those colors work well with my botanical quilt projects as pops of color as I build blocks using either 5" or 2 1/2" squares. In an April IG stream https://www.instagram.com/bj18wise/
ReplyDeleteI have a quilt using botanical and batik. They work beautifully together.
Love the Exuberance batiks and your prize 1. Working on Chilhowie and a small art quilt for Project Quilting

ReplyDeleteCongrats on being an Island Batik 2023 Ambassador. What fun! I love your strips. I'll be making 12" star blocks using batiks for an exchange with my Treadle On group later this year.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Preeti! You have some fabulous fabrics to play with, and I look forward to seeing what you create!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a repeat performance, Preeti! Looking forward to the fun new projects you will make.
ReplyDeleteWow! Such a bounty in this shipment! Do the ambassadors meet -- by Zoom, or maybe now in person? So happy your term has been renewed.
ReplyDeleteI really must finish off my hexigon quilt before I start anything else
