Twins!!!

Somethings are just better together like turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls and butter.  (Clearly, I have Thanksgiving on my mind.)

TWINS!!!
Here is my latest finish - two quilts that are just meant to be together. Because they are for twins.

Scrappy One

Scrappy Two

A dear friend is going to be a grandma. She gleefully shared the news and her delight was supreme as she said - TWINS!!!

Candy & Cupcake

Monkey - ready to jump off the edge!

Since the twins are due by the end of the month, it was absolutely essential for me to drop everything and finish these.  Sharing with Sandra's Dreami Linky.

Black/White does not have to mean boring

How can a fire breathing dragon be adorable?
I am calling them Happy and Lucky.  They are different but have several similar fabrics, just like siblings have similar characteristics. So, how can I tell them apart? Happy has orange/black Halloween binding and Lucky has orange binding.

Lucky and Happy

They also have different backings. Happy has a pieced backing, Lucky has a floral backing.

Here are a few more pictures.

Lucky labelled

Happy Labelled

Sheep & Dog

Fox and Owls
I am thrilled with these two finishes. Hope the mom-to-be likes them too.
Finished!!!

Lucky and Happy
These are finishes 17 and 18 for this year.   I will be happily sharing with all my favorite linky parties. - see the links on the sidebar. I'd be so lucky to hear from you.

Bright and Cheerful

There is lots going on in the Sew Preeti Quilts workshop. I am making sweet pea pods for an upcoming holiday bazar.

Sweet Pea Pod in the making

Here is a completed flat Becca bag. This penguins on ice skates fabric screamed my name and I had to not only get it but use it to make something darling.

Flat Becca Bag
I first saw this mermaid fabric on Janine's blog - Quilts from the Little House. I found this at Joann Fabrics and these mermaids happily hopped into my cart.  Looks like it will become another Becca bag.

Mermaids Fabric from Joann

Recently got this 60" wide fabric from Ikea. Wish they had more choices.

60" wide backing from Ikea

I had used this fabric in Clay's quilt and I absolutely loved working with it. Therefore, I decided to buy the bolt - 12 yards at $4.99 is a steal. What do you think?

Mook Fabrics Steal

I have managed to resist all the pre-Black Friday sales so far.  But I will peek on Friday, for sure.  I know Craftsy will have something yummy.  I have my eyes on this Andover Chroma pre-cut.

I missed the wide backing sale on Connecting Threads last week. And I am resisting their 50% stash builders sale, but if the wide backing is on the Black Friday sale, I'd be sure to buy some.

My sister's family will be here for Thanksgiving.  I have lots to do. Cheese and sour cream do not like Paul, my niece is allergic to nuts, and my sister is vegetarian.  And I am busy planning, shopping and prepping to please everyone.

Have a safe and a happy Thanksgiving
(Translation - Don't bring up politics, don't rise to the bait, even if you have to pretend to choke on an olive.)

Whatever Works!!!

Paul: Are you still blogging?
Me: No, I am reading the comments on my blogpost.
Paul: What is the difference?
Me (Ignoring his last remark): Such sweet comments. Did you read my blog?
Paul: Not yet. Come snuggle with me.
Me: I will snuggle with you if you read my blog.
Paul: I will read your blog after you snuggle with me.
Me: Coming...

That was a short conversation. Finished to satisfy both parties.
Whatever Works!!!

Speaking of finishing something - I did not finish anything that I started in January. But I do have a finish to share.

And as a quilter - a finish is a finish and is better than a UFO/WIP.

A quilt is like a conversation - between the fabric and thread, between the quilter and the pattern, between the sewing machine and all other distractions.

Here is the resulting story from my conversations with fabric, thread, and the sewing machine, distractions notwithstanding.  I am calling this one - Whatever Works. What do you think? Does the name suit?

Honestly, there is always a scrap vortex quilt in the works - actively.  Whatever scraps are left over from cutting fabric (for the main quilt) are being sewed in twos, at the same time as the principal quilt is being pieced - much like leaders and enders.

Like the side conversations at the main conference.

One fine day those side conversations, cross talks and whisperings will come together to become something meaningful.

Hey, I am not complaining. Whatever works. Right?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember those JR Twists from January?  They were my DREAMi moments and before I could finish them, I had another DREAMi moment - dreamier than before.

I blame it on Mary Huey. Thanks to her, I got the bird flu or shall I say bird flew :-D
Her blog led me to the tutorial
http://www.blocklotto.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/BirdBlockDirectionsV2.pdf

As soon as I started reading the tutorial, I realized - oh no. There is a (slightly) better way of making these birds. Instead of making one, make two birds - mirror images.

Of course, I did not stop there. There are over 60 birds in the making.

I have not been able to stop. Somebody help me.

One leg. Two legs.

This is Chipotle Chilebird. Yes, naming them is super-fun too. Also something I learned from Mary Huey. If you are wondering where are the rest of them, well they are hatchlings. Will share when they become fully-grown birds...Ha Ha Ha.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is only logical to dream about spring and summer when one is the middle of winter.  Look what I found. This is the Summer Solids FQ Bundle from Connecting Threads.

And this is the Spring Solids FQ Bundle. 14 FQs for under $18. You are welcome!

Love these solids - so many possibilities. What would you do? I will probably mix them up - the bright summer colors contrast well with the pastel spring-y ones.

Speaking of supplies, did you hear about the Craftsy sale?

I will be linking with One Monthly Goal, Sandra's Dreami party and all my other usual (but favorite) linky parties.

Aquaculture & Addiction

Happy Friday to you all. I have a finish to share.

Friday Finish!!!

I chose to call this quilt Aquaculture - aqua for blue and culture for green (imagine growing a culture in a petri dish) Since it is growing, it is green.

Green Blocks

Blue too!

But it could also mean growing things in water.
Piecing in Progress

And the green blocks within blue outlines seems like green things growing in water. Therefore - Aquaculture.
Charmed

I bought the charm pack (Pineapple Fabrics) from the Quilt Show in 2015.  Threw in a couple of other fabrics to match/make do.

Assembling Rows

OK, I admit, it was a UFO. But I am happy to announce it is  FINISHED  now.
Aquaculture

No body in mind.
Just a quilt.
Quilted

I am sure  a recipient will miraculously appear.

Quilting Detail

The batting is Warm & Natural.  I quilted it in a grid - horizontal and vertical lines, using my walking foot and a decorative stitch. on my Janome.

I chose the same teal blue for the binding to bring the quilt pattern together.  I think it works.
Backing and Binding

The backing is just so cute!!!  This is my September finish (one of them at least) and I will be linking with Heidi of Red Letter Quilts.

Friendly Animals :-)

Here is what the label looks like -  Name on one half, and care instructions on the other half.  I got it from ikaprints.

My label
This is how the finished label looks.
Labelled
Since my quilt holder-upper is still out of commission, the mail box will have to do for now.

What are you working on?
*********************************************************************************

Let's talk about Addiction now.  Fabric addiction that is.
Let's admit that there is  no cure. We can manage it...or at east try.

I have allowed myself to buy new fabric in the following conditions
1. When I finish a UFO.
2. When a desired line goes on sale.
3. When I do a giveaway.

Amazingly, all three are true for right NOW.
I just finished Aquaculture.  I just completed my first giveaway. The packages in the mail today.
And look at all this yumminess on sale!!!

Here are a few of my favorite picks.

Cotton and Steel FQ box - Just over a dollar for a fat quarter, this needs no introduction.  Grab it before it is gone.

Andover Sun Print by Alison Glass - This is the fabric line that Molli Sparkles has been raving about.  Need I say more? Fine, it is also on sale!!!

Arabian Nights - Love the rich dark colors. And it is 50% off.  I probably won't use the kit for the pattern (I think it needs some lighter colors too for the eyes to rest), but boy do I love the fabric?

Moda Ombre Basic by V & Co. - Such a  great value for such versatile fabrics. Wow!!!

Which one of these caught your eye?  Do let me know because I love to hear from you!
I will be linking with all my favorite linky parties.
